Next up, we’re revealing what’s behind Todd’s mask. Todd is the CEO of Litco Law, and although he uses the term ta-da and some of the things he does seem like magic, he’s not technically a magician. When asked what he’s bad at, he didn’t seem to have a concrete answer, so maybe he is a little magic after all?

Why did you become a
lawyer?
The funny reason, and the short reason that I became a lawyer is because my dad was a lawyer. I enjoyed spending time in the company, as a young kid. I spent a lot of time here on weekends and after school, came to love meeting the clients, dealing with different personalities, meeting people from all walks of life and different cultures and I really came to enjoy the atmosphere.
What makes you a better lawyer?
A better lawyer for me, does not mean, simply knowing the law. 99 percent of lawyers that come out of law school are perfectly great at what they do and have the education. What makes a better lawyer for me personally, is moving the needle, or making changes in your life, both business or professional and family-wise. That’s what I try and do individually, well, not try, I make my life better, and make myself better as a person each and every day. That will make your surroundings better, it will make your team better, and it makes it much easier to lead by example.
Why do you work in Personal Injury Law?
The original reason I went into Personal Injury law obviously had a lot to do with this being our family firm, in existence since 1976. The reason I stayed was because the passion behind, caring for our clients and giving them what they need in an unfair industry where the deck is stacked against them, dealing with insurance companies, balancing the power to help them get their lives back on track. It’s also for me about being surrounded by great people, having a great team, having fun at work, making everything full of purpose. To me, working with this team and serving our clients, I get that.
What has been a challenge in your career?
The biggest obstacle for me, and this would be before I was CEO and I was going into my position as CEO. It would have been trying to figure out the right process and the right course of action to take this company from what was a very successful mom and pop shop (if you will) to a process-driven, scalable company. As my brother and I always liked to say, we’re scaling the unscalable, law firms typically don’t scale the way that we have and they typically don’t provide the level of customer service that we do. In order for us to get that right, we had to take our time to decide on the process and commit to the process to make that work.

If you could have any superpower what would it be? Definitely invisible.
One thing you are bad at? I’m trying to think of this one, I don’t know what I’m bad at, I came up with something I think, but I can’t.
One thing you’re good at? Arguing.
If you could play any instrument what would it be? It would be guitar. I kinda know how to play it but I’d like to get better.
If you could speak any language what would it be? Russian.

Who would play you in a movie of your life? Robert Downey Jr. A YOUNG Robert Downey Jr.
Favourite place to visit in Alberta/Canada? I’m going Montreal, with Winnipeg as a close second because of the charm.
